Karate and Tae Kwon Do

The most well known martial arts are karate, Tae Kwon Do, MMA, Judo and BJJ, back in the eighties after about 20 years, Aikido finally got its recognition but the others mentioned are the market leaders, how many people outside of the Wing Chun circle have actually heard of Wing Chun, well for those that have not, it's the martial art that Bruce Lee built his own system round, so for a change why not give Wing Chun a go, its suitable for all ages regardless of gender and you don't have to be a tough
guy to use it well :-)

DO NOT PUSH

Nine years ago when I started to research wing chun, the most prominent aspect of the art was that it was suitable for all people regardless of age and gender. This was because of energy redirection, sometimes it's smarter to go round the mountain as going over may prove hazardous, I believe that trying to force your attack through the opponent does not fit with the art of wing chun DO NOT PUSH!

Wing Chun wall bag

The bag is made of canvas to teach you not to scrape your knuckles, not to make your hands harder, if you hit the bag wrong you hurt your knuckles if you hit it right you do not

The other thing the bag teaches you is to ground your body correctly so that when you hit the bag your not uprooted and off balance

Stop pushing

Wing chun was a girl and did not have a lot of power so to win she had to go around force to win

Improving your wing chun

Anyone who never ever gets hit in any martial art has nothing further to learn its only through trial abs error that w improve always work with people you think may challenge you in your art then you may move forward

Dedicate yourself to your art

As an instructor I spend many hours putting together lessons for those that wish to learn Wing Chun, I always try to make sure I get the message out to to everyone so that they have the training, so that they can progress, but sometimes they don’t show up and I used to get frustrated at this, then today I stopped getting frustrated because when they missed that particular lesson, it had left a big whole in there training, so I say hard luck that is a lesson your not going to get for a long, and so you don’t have the full picture and so your training is going to take even longer and cost you even more, or you might quit simply because there are too many holes in what you have learned from not attending.

Dedicate yourself to your art people, as yoda said “do or do not there is no try”

There is always a solution to a misisng hand

So how does a guy with one hand over come the problem of wielding the weapons of wing chun... hear's how.

Over some time might i add i found a suitable tube that would fit over the end of a wing chun pole, i did not want to make somthing that would only work with one pole it had to be universal.

I then took a peice of computer bag (shoulder strap) and wrapped that round the outside to make a soft slot for my stump to go in to, I could not screw in to the tube as that would stop the pole turning so i found some large hose clips, and below you can see the finished product in action.

So what about the knives, this was a challenge and still need further development as can't perform secions 7 and 8 of baat cham dao as they require knives to be flipped and turned at odd angle of which my stump arm can not do. i also developed some pain my stump from heavy knives so i had to switch to aluminium, i then took some plumbing pipe that would fit over my stump and left a lip on each end via cutting it, i then made a whole on each end and put it between the grip as it was a central spindle and screwed the handle back together.

Portugal 2012 - WOW! what a turn out

Back in April 2009, i made a group of new friends which i now call family, this was the first trip that GM Samuel Kwok had organised to portugal and look at the turn out that first year.

Now here we are 4 years later in 2012 and look how its grown...

Over 90 people attended this year, all i can say, is it's truly amazing to meet so many like minded souls following the wing chun spirit.

This is a trubute to you guys well done!
